Anyone working with puppets or vent dolls ? Any tips for building an easy portable puppet box. I got avery nice plan for a fantastic puppet cupboard, but it is a lot of work and very heavy. Then I got an old TV-box frame, love to use that so the kids can watch Clowntoon network. Optional ideas for this TVbox ?

Kallie maybe if you do put in the effort to bring the big heavy empty TV box to your show you can use it in a sort of 'add lib, impromptu" clowning way. Things that suddenly comes to mind could be: Ask your audience who would like to be on TV? Pick a victim......eehh helper and when he/she comes to the front, reveal the TV and ask him to get on top of it, perhaps making him do something silly like holding onto your clown coat, or maybe pretend to get him to replace the light bulb overhead.
Or, This show is interupted by a very urgent news flash..(get behind the TV and look thru it) while saying something like: Ladies and jellybeans, boys and non boys, this is the last Saturday of this week. And then carry on with your show as if it is normal to do something like this.
It could also be a good idea if some famous TV puppet from the past do this important anouncement, somebody like Haas Das or Sarel seemonster or who ever else.
Pay your TV license, it's the right thing to do, if not, we will take away all the pictures inside your TV, (and leave you with the empty case) ha-ha-ha, isn't that what is currently on SABC anyways, a lot of empty-ness.

Hi Zimbo, or if you like, girls and non girls, it always get's a laugh, a giggle or other response. I also like to use: How old are you little girl? (Let's say she is six) I will say, "now you won't believe this, but when I was not a girl your age I was also six".

In meantime, I did use the TV box as a TV on a table with tablecloth sitting behind. Either using puppets from behind as kids watching a story on 'TV', or I use it as an announcement box with a sport commentator, while another clown or me perform some sport activities on the other side of the 'stage'.

I tell the kids I'm 184, baby dinosaur, that's why granny dress me like this, so no body will notice and then I can do magic, . . . I think, or you have to help me.

Now see, this is the sole purpose of this forum, to learn and widen your clown spectrum. Younger clowns, please take note, just join and read the forum, you can learn so much. Even our older clowns learn from one another. Happy you could use and have success with the lines Zimbo. I also had a show at a nursery school this morning and used those words with great effect. I had put such an effort into that 40 minute show that I am still oh so tired. Tommorow I have a 3 hours walk around gig, Sunday 2 hours of the same and another school show on Monday. I will take the rest of the week of to recover, ha-ha-ha, I can start to feel it in my bones.

Anybody knows if there is a good puppet show in the Pretoria area? I have a customer who desperately would like to book a good puppet show.

My entertainment career actually started as me being a puppeteer. That was way back in 1971/72 when I was in std 5. I am often thinking about maybe starting up a puppet show again. Well so many dreams so little time.
